Passenger Seat Squeak Fix

I have a bad habit for fixing stuff and not taking pictures. Maybe it's the mechanic in me, used to working flat rate.

Anywho, I am not sure exactly which component was causing this squeak, but it's gone (for now).

What is causing the squeak is the belt buckle strap that is rubbing a bolt head that is on the bottom of the seat, towards the back.

There is a very easy and simple way to fix this. Take an adhesive strip of velcro and wrap it around the strap.

You can also replace the bolt with a smaller one. I went the quick route with the velcro, and the squeak is gone.

Ok, FYI it is not the seat clamps.

It is the damn seat belt bolt for the buckle on the inside part of the seat. If I change the angle, it will go away. I lubed and tightened it, and it seems better.

It's making the noise when we hit bumps because the buckle is getting forced out putting stress on the bolt.

I have this same freakin' problem. I might take the seat out and shoot some pics for everyone when i fix it. How certain are you that this is the issue?

Because when it starts squeaking with someone riding in my car, as soon as I grab their buckle, it immediately stops. When I release it, the noise starts again.

If someone that is very large sits in there, they'll push the buckle out so far that it won't move and make the noise. It only does it for a certain size person.

So it is not the seat pan or seat bracket. It is the seat belt buckle, the part that has the button mounting bolt that is making the noise.

Yeah, I know I was wrong. The reason I thought it was the seat pan was if I pressed down on it, it made noise as well.

Lube on the seat belt connector bolt. Haven't tried tightening it up yet.

The seat pan did not make the same noise, just a light creaking.

I took the semi-circle brackets off that hold the pan to the round seat frame tubing, and lined them with thin weatherstripping.

I was never able to duplicate the squeaking sound except if someone that is the right size sits in the seat. The dealer was unable to duplicate it either.

Hey Grease, I'm bringing this back because I want to know more about this fix. did it kill the light creaking? My light creaking has moved up in the world to serious creaking and its pissing me off. Thanks.

It's not the seat pan.

I should edit this thread......

I'm going to do the correct write-up this weekend with the bolt replacement. Hopefully mods can help to clear out the thread.

It is the bolt that connect the seat buckle to the passenger seat which is between the seat and console. I was provided with a part number of a bolt from ResumeSpeed which has a smaller head which should stop the squeaking.

The squeaking we are all hearing is the head of the bolt squeak against the metal of the attaching point to the buckle when the buckle is pushed out at the right angle.

This bolt *should* fix it.

THIS EXACT THING was done @ the dealership for my UNDER WARRANTY!

Just take it to the dealership and they will fix it..

I do get some crackling from the actual belt buckle and I also get this vibration when I'm listening to anything w/ decent bass from driver side door/boost gauge/apillar area. I did score some foam I'm gonna try and fix that rattle..

There was a TSB for the seat track.

I got the bolt for $2. I'd rather pay $2 for something that will take me 5 minutes to swap out compared to waist two hours at the dealer.

I only get the noise when my wife is in the passenger seat and we go over a speed bump at low speed or some other type of undulating road feature. My wife is tiny, I never would expect her to cause a seat to squeak, thanks for the info on this Grease.

I know about the seatbelt connection squeak, I had that too when only my uncle or his son would sit in it, I lubed it up and it went away, I'll look into the bolt replacement thing though. The issue I have now is a real creaking sound. It comes from both front seats with the right application of pressure, but it comes more from the driver's seat, which says to me that it's getting worse with usage. I saw the tsb about the track, but 1. it predates my car, and 2. I looked at the track and it's not been rubbing.

I have it come from the driver's seat too if the buckle is at the right angle.

The new bolt I got was not the correct size.

I removed the buckle and put some wheel bearing grease around the head of the bolt. That still didn't fix it.

I'm going to try and find some thing rubber washers to put on both sides. It's designed so the buckle stays loose, so when it's pressed out it makes noise against the bolt head. If I throw a thin damping material in there, that should fix it.

To remove the bolt, just open the console lid and remove the two screws there. You can yank up on the back of the console, and use a ratchet with an extension to pass under the console and a T-50 torx head to remove the bold.

Once I can get some washers to do the job I'll get pictures and re do the first post on this thread.

I think its actually the buckle rubbing against the seat cushion. Try putting some velcro (soft side) on the buckle on any surface that may touch the seat cushion. I think there is already a felt type piece on the buckle, but it may not be big enough.

This is a trip cause I found this thread and see that it's still an issue. This squeak has been driving me crazy and has gotten worse for some time now. I was on a trip recently and had a friend with me. And we figured it out that it would only squeak when the belt is clicked in. So I guess I'll see what I can do to fix this. I might just take mine in and get the damn dealership to fix it. This squeak is driving me crazy!!!

Still haven't gotten around to fixing this yet. I picked up a second job to counteract the pay cuts....it isn't helping in the free time department.

I did look at the buckle though, and the metal strap does have paint missing so it's rubbing on the bolt head near it. I'm just going to wrap some fuzzy velcro around the strap and call it a day.

This is what is causing the squeaking in my car. The wide strap part of the buckle is rubbing against a bolt head near it.
If it's squeaking without anyone using it, try pushing/pivoting the buckle all the way up to the backrest section on the seat. This puts the strap on top of the bolt head, and holds everyone in place quietly.

As for stopping the squeak when someone is using the seatbelt, I haven't done too much.

The squeak in mine is ABSOLUTELY only when someone is in the seat and is buckled in. So it's coming from INSIDE I believe. I had my friend move the seat with it buckled and it did it...and while he was moving it and it was squeaking...he would unbuckle the seatbelt and it would stop. We did this many times to make sure. I'm going to take mine to the dealership and get them to replace the buckle and see if that does the job...

When it's buckled you're bringing the whole assembly in towards the seat, and the metal strap is rubbing against a bolt head near the strap.

same here. funny how when my wife (weighs 125ish lbs) sits in the seat it squeaks.

if i have someone heavier like a friend weighing 185 -200ish it doesnt.

it is definitely the buckle cuz when i hear it squeak i immediately grab it and it stops making the noise.

thanks for the quick fix Grease!
