Re: New Problem with standard trans

I noticed the same thing after I had the flash done as well. I assumed that it was due to the driving style that I had adapted to for driving with slugging engine feel before the flash.

The sound from best I can hear is detonation, it seems when the engine is turning more that 1500 rpm or is under heavy acceleration it makes a "click" and then all is fine after that. It is audiable with my windows open however not with windows closed.

I found that if you fully release the cluch before giving it gas it prevents the clicking sound somewhat, however I am unaware of what the cause of it is as it only started after the flash.

It is almost as they had the timing too far back before the flash and now it is to far advanced........

New Problem with standard trans

Had the flash done a week ago for the diesel noise. All OK in that department, but today I noticed a strange metal snapping noise coming from the transmission area when going into third and then fourth gear. It occurs as I let out the clutch with the RPM at 2000. The noise is loud enough to hear over the radio with the window closed. It happend 8 out of 10 times today. It happens only on up shift.

Any suggestions on cause or similar experience out there?

Re: New Problem with standard trans

I have the same problem.
Detonation when the engine is turning from 1200 rpm until 2000 with 2300.
It happens under acceleration with third, fourth and fifth gear.
It is audiable only with my windows open.
Bad timing...

I'm going to visit my dealer next week.

Re: New Problem with standard trans

To see if it's Detonation try running a higher grade fuel and see if it goes away. If that works then you can tell the dealer what you did to solve the problem then they can make the adjustments accordingly to the cars recommended 87 octane level.

Re: New Problem with standard trans

The metal snapping noise I refer to is a mechanical thing. I can feel it in the clutch pedal as it is being let out. I do not believe it has anything to do with timing, knocking, octane, barking, licking or being uncute. It is just annoying and I don't like it. And I hope the wheels fall off as I am driving past the service department so I can use it as an excuse to have a uncontrolled collision with the new cars out front. There I feel better.

Re: New Problem with standard trans

There is a TSB that defines clutch pedal overcenter spring removal... The symptom sounds like the one mentioned in that TSB. Keep us gear jammers informed on what you find out.

Re: New Problem with standard trans

Had a read of the TSB you mentioned. Not it. Not a Diesel to start with. The noise is coming from the clutch and is felt in the pedal during release and heard easily. Raining here today and it did not make the noise that I could tell. Will take it in next week and kidnap a mechanic for a drive and see if he/she can determine a source. I will let you know what happens. My question is this now. Do I go back to the three star dealer ( I took 2 of their stars away you recall) or do I drive the extra 50 kms to the 5 star?

Re: New Problem with standard trans

A bump for us 5-speed owners, or at least the 1.8l ones, I had a clicking noise that was only there when i was in neutral with the clutch out. My dealer was able to figure it out and they installed a new clutch in my car. So far the noise is gone, apparently the clutch was updated and Chrysler engineering knows about the problem. My only problem now is that my clutch pedal squeaks...
