Hello, I’m new to this forum and delighted to be a part of it with fellow Caliber owners! I do have an issue I hope someone can relate to and provide some insight. I anticipate learning a lot more about my Caliber by visiting this site often.
My issue came about a week ago today. I took my 2010 Caliber SXT (automatic) into the service department (at the dealership where I bought it) for a routine oil change and tire rotation. Mileage was at 96,395 and I was a little bit overdue. I left the car overnight on Tuesday and in stable condition –nothing was giving me an issue. I picked it up the next morning when it was ready and no issues were discussed with me. I was given my printout and all checked out fine, my tires were a little on the “yellow-will require further attention” but everything else was on the “green-OK.” I drove it to work which is roughly 15 miles and immediately noticed that my car made a deep roaring sound when I accelerated. It felt as if it was struggling to accelerate and the more I pressed on the gas to pick up a little speed, the louder the roaring sound. I drove it around as usual from work to home and my car was just not sounding better. I called the service department on Thursday night and asked for advice and was told it could be from the tire rotation and that I could bring it in and they would rotate the tires back.
I brought my car in Friday morning and the service advisor assigned to my car got in with me and he drove it around the block -6 min tops. He accelerated (lighter than I have needed since we were in a residential area) and did acknowledge the sound. He explained to me that with an oil change and tire rotation, there couldn’t be anything more than just the treading on the tires throwing off the balance and all will eventually adjust. He did not support rotating my tires back and told me to drive it around to see if all will adjust over the weekend and to call if there were issues. Well, I'm still having problems and it’s not getting better. I emailed yesterday and explained that the acceleration up hill is worse. The noise is a deeper roaring sound – the sound it makes when you have your car in park and rev the engine. The car struggles to accelerate and it's as if it's not “switching gears.” I'm concerned driving it much more now especially with my kids. I'm on the road more these days getting them to and from day camp.
In researching the issue read a few forums and think it might be the car's computer needing an update since all of this came outta nowhere. I have not been called back and am just at a loss for what to do and want to arm myself with information to encourage the issue to be solved. As a female, I do feel intimidated in a car service environment because I clearly don’t know much about cars and rely on trust that I am serviced with the best intentions in mind. What I do know is that I have an issue that I don’t want brushed under a rug and told to just get used to it or that the service they provided could not have caused this problem. Any advice would be appreciated.
