As there seems to be a few threads going on about this, I figured I would make a thread where all the info/sites that I know of are in one easy to find spot!

The model years are for the Caliber, and the availability of these radios will vary in different Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep vehicles.

2007 - 2008 Dodge Caliber

REC Navigation System (North America Only)

Features:

  • DVD Navigation disc, dedicated slot
  • 8-way joystick for navigation control
  • AM/FM Stereo radio
  • Integrated 6-Disc CD Changer
  • MP3 disc playback capability
  • SIRIUS Satellite Radio option
  • UConnect™ option

This navigation system features a large 5.8-inch full-color display, MP3 player, AM/FM stereo, six-disc CD system and navigation system in one unit. An eight-way joystick allows the user to scroll through the navigation menus and icons quickly and effortlessly.

The system guides the user through the drive route providing voice commands, mile by mile, turn-by-turn until the final destination is reached. Destinations may be entered into the system 10 different ways and the screen may be viewed as a detailed map or enlarged to be viewed turn-by-turn.

With MP3 capability and the option to add various entertainment and communication features, the navigation system is clearly in the forefront of information and entertainment technology. The system effectively calculates the quickest and most accurate route and immediately redirects the driver should he or she veer off path.

The MP3 player is a navigation first, and the radio also features SIRIUS Satellite Radio™ availability. The MP3 feature enables the user to view and play files and folders contained within MP3 discs. Coupled with SIRIUS Satellite Radio, the stream listing, stream category, song title, and artist can be viewed on the system’s display screen.

The navigation system features a single DVD disc which contains mapping, points of interest and business phone numbers across the U.S. (where digitized mapping data and information are available). In addition, route calculations may be made quickly with Alpine’s proprietary software algorithms which provide routing information within 10 seconds. This is crucial when a driver misses a turn and needs an immediate re-route.

The navigation system receives its GPS, or global positioning system signals, from up to eight satellites to display the position and direction of the vehicle. A gyroscope and the vehicle’s speed sensor enable the system to display the present vehicle position even in locations where a GPS signal may not be available. When a destination is entered, the navigation system uses data from the DVD to quickly calculate a route.

An excellent install How-To by our very own Fingernipp: http://home.comcast.net/~fingernipple/recnavinstall.pdf
his uconnect handsfree install guide for it: http://home.comcast.net/~fingernipple/uconnectinstall.pdf

To install a REC navigation in a Dodge Caliber that did not come with one you will need a new bezel (2007-2008 Caliber Satin Silver Navigation Bezel - Mopar part# 82210579), gps antenna, and probably a navigation disc.

Re: MyGIG and REC Navigation Information

2007 - 2008 Calibers used different dash face plates/bezels for the standard radios and the Navigation radios.
2009 + Calibers all use the same dash face plate for all the radios.

Re: MyGIG and REC Navigation Information

Steering Wheel Audio Controls

The remote sound system controls are located on the rear surface of the steering wheel. Reach behind the wheel to access the switches. The right hand control is a rocker type switch with a push-button in the center and controls the volume and mode of the sound system. Pressing the top of the rocker switch will increase the volume and pressing the bottom of the rocker switch will decrease the volume.

Pressing the center button will make the radio switch between the various modes available (AM/FM/TAPE/ CD, Etc.).

The left hand control is a rocker type switch with a push-button in the center. The function of the left hand control is different depending on which mode you are in. The following describes the left hand control operation in each mode.

Radio Operation

Pressing the top of the switch will "Seek" up for the next listenable station and pressing the bottom of the switch will "Seek" down for the next listenable station. The button located in the center of the left hand control will tune to the next preset station that you have programmed in the radio preset push-button.

Tape Player

Pressing the top of the switch once will go to the next selection on the cassette. Pressing the bottom of the switch once will go to the beginning of the current selection or to the beginning of the previous selection if it is within the first 5 seconds of the current selection.

If you press the switch up or down twice it plays the second selection, three times, it will play the third, etc.

The button in the center of the left hand switch switches the side of the tape to be played.

CD Player

Pressing the top of the switch once will go to the next track on the CD. Pressing the bottom of the switch once will go to the beginning of the current track or to the beginning of the previous track if it is within one second after the current track begins to play.

If you press the switch up or down twice it plays the second track, three times, it will play the third, etc.

The center button on the left side rocker switch has nc function for a single disc CD player. However, when a multiple disc CD player is equipped on the vehicle, the center button will select the next available CD in the player.

Found this today for anyone that wants to install MyGig but wants to still retain the Uconnect mirror functionality.

http://www.oemautopartsco.com/product_info.php?cPath=65&products_id=225

ATTENTION: The purpose of this cable is to provide customers who have factory installed UConnect the ability install an RER MYGIG into their vehicle and still be able to use their current factory UConnect setup. Basically, vehicles that have factory UConnect have an external UConnect receiver within their dash. The RER MYGIG has its own built in UConnect receiver. This featured cable will allow both the factory installed UConnect receiver and the RER UConnect receiver to work hand in hand without having to install an additional MYGIG UConnect microphone. ***Dealer programming is required upon successful installation!

anyone else having trouble getting the automatic brightness to work on the REC Navigation System? Doesn't go dull when dark..just stays bright. (yes I know how to set it to automatic vs manual day/night
on my rer mygig, it depends on whether or not the headlights are on or not, and then the dashdimmer switch can contol it. dont know how the rec works though

How to add steering wheel controls:

jmr - From the "Z" said:
I just replaced my stock steering wheel on my 2011 Caliber Heat with a leather steering wheel off a 2009 Avenger with radio controls on it. The (2008-2010) Avenger and Caliber use the same steering wheel. Your Caliber will have the correct clockspring but you'll need to go the dealer and have them Starscan it to add sales code RDZ to your Calibers configuration in order to activate the radio control switch option. So far I've added this option to a 2011 Caliber Heat, 2008 Avenger SXT and a 2009 Challenger R/T.

See the instructions below.

Programming Needed To Add: Steering Wheel Mounted Audio Controls
Log on to https://dealerconnect.chrysler.com

In the Vehicle Option screen under the Global Claims System category in the Service tab,
enter the cars VIN and the sales code(s) from the list below add in Dealer Installed Options. (Be sure to clear any DTC’s.)

RDZ (Steering Wheel Mounted Audio Controls)

Confirm that the new sales code(s) has been successfully added to the VIN

With the StarSCAN diagnostic tool connected to both the internet (via Ethernet port or wireless connection) and the vehicle, follow these steps below.

IN THE INITIAL START UP SCREEN

1) Press Vehicle Preparation
2) Toggle down and highlight Restore Vehicle Configuration
3) Press Start
4) Press Next
5) If necessary, select proper vehicle line and model year and Press Next
6) Confirm correct selection and Press Next
7) Enter vehicle VIN using on-screen keyboard or confirm that the auto-filled VIN matches vehicle VIN plate and Press Next
8) Press OK
9) Enter user ID, password and dealer code using on-screen keyboard and Press OK
10) Wait for the vehicle configuration data to be downloaded and then Press Next

(this may take 30 minutes or more for Chrysler to send the config file)

11)Press Next
12)Confirm that vehicle configuration has been programmed successfully
13)Note on-screen instructions and Press Finish

Can someone tell me where the Sirius radio antenna cable is located? I am installing the MyGIG and need to plug in the antenna that came with my car (on roof at rear) into the RER system.

Thanks,
It is under the headliner directly under the antenna but you will need the extension wire from the jeep to run to the radio I know there are a few how to post on here to show you how to do it hope this helps :bigthumb:
