Rear Brake Noise

Well, for the past 3 months I've been hearing a noise on the rear driver side drum brake. What is unusual, is that it is a squeaking noise whenever I let go of the brakes. For example, whenever I am at a red light and let go of the brake to accelerate, there is a squeaking noise. And that is the only time I hear it, whenever I take my foot off of the brake at a stop sign, red light or putting my car into drive. Anyone know what this could be or if anyone else has experienced this? Thanks!

Sounds like your springs in the drum are failing or sticking.
Might be a good time to take the drum apart, and clean out all the crap inside.
A little brake grease where needed, and it should be all good.
At worst, you may need a new spring kit (which should be pretty cheap).

I am not 100% sure about the Calibers (my SRT is disk with drum e-brake), but I know on the Neons (which is probably the same design) the auto-adjusters tend to rust solid, so now would be a really good time to inspect and grease it. This will save you loads of hate down the road.

Arrow Same Issue!!

Hi, I'm a newbie here! Couldn't help but share that I'm having the same problem with my 2011 Caliber. Just got it a month ago. Brakes squeal also, intermittently. Had the car back in to the dealer "twice", the noise still there. Guess I need to take it to a reputable brake shop, huh? What do you all think?

I have a 2011 Mainstream having the same problems listed above. I have replace the drum, new spring kit, replace the brake shoes with different type but still have the same results. I have a knocking and squealing noise. What is the fix? I have been driving around with this issue over a year. Please tell me there is a fix or a replacement.

If you have rear brake drums have them turned, I have a 2010 Caliber and it squealed all the time. Right out of the dealership. Had them turned and it never squealed again. GL
