OIL change required ??

The 1 st. oil changed required light came on at 2456--- I changed oil and a mopar filter at that time....Thought that was a little bit soon but oh well...Was out of town and the 2 nd, oil change required came on at 5064 ... so I stopped by the dealer to get the oil changed--- they said $ 125.00--I said are you crazy---so as I was leaving and they came back out and said $90.00 to change the oil---are you crazy---- went to another dealer and they wanted $85.00---any way bought all the parts and did it my self---$30.00----My question is ,,With synthetic oil shouldn't the interval be a little bit longer than 2500 miles...What causes the oil to get dirty that quick----caliberay

Re: OIL change required ??

your intervals are pretty short, I wouldn't expect the first change reminder to come on until you approach the 5,000-6,000 mile like we've seen from some of the first reports. The oil change reminder is algorithm based, it doesn't really know that your oil is dirty, but it determines the changer interval based on your use of the vehicle. There is something about your driving style, driving conditions, or weather conditions that are causing the computer to recommend a change. Perhaps lots of idling, stop and go, short trips etc...., dunno. It is all duty cycle based. I haven't had one come up yet but others have.

Mobil1 0w-40 can easily go the recommended interval of 6,000 miles, I would not dump it out any sooner than 5,000 miles, dumping it out sooner is a waste of money and perfectly good oil, especially at that price. This oil protects turbo Porsche engines in upwards of 10,000-15,000 mile intervals, so it can easily protect this engine for up to 6,000.
