Why must everyone call the Caliber the new Neon? From what I know, its a completely different car and shouldnt be compared. I know that it is replacing it in the lineup of car offerings, but its not a "new neon"!

I am not a neon hater, I had the 2000 before getting the caliber and loved it.

Qoutes Im tired of.
"So thats the new neon"
"So they changed the neon's body?"
"They just rebadged it again, like the SX2.0"

Anyone agree or come accross these yet?
Im done

I have not heard any of those comments. I had a 2000 Neon as well and it was the best car I ever had. The Caliber is just more of what I needed at this point in my life. I would be willing to bet that another small car is on the horizon from Dodge for those people who don't like the Caliber.

I've only had a few folks say something to the effect of: "So, that's the one that replaced the Neon". The word "replaced" seems reasonable, and is accurate as far as the offering lineup (as stated in the original post)....

I have only seen the Neon---Never driven one, but I cant see what all the fuss is over the Neon. It looks like a reallt small car. The Caliber on the other hand doesnt look like a small car. It definately doesnt ride or drive like a small car. Had two "large" adults in the back seat for over an hour on an outing and they said they were comfortable. I also had a Neon with an older driver in it checking out my caliber from all angles while on the freeway and finally gave me the 'OK' sign. WHAT A CAR!!!!

Well, I pretty partial to the Neon. I have owned 4, a 95, 00, 03 & currently and 05. All within the last 2 years or so. I LOVE THE NEON... especially the 95-99's.

But anyway. With the Caliber I hear the comments as well. I just correct them. I also point out that "the Caliber shares a platform with the Jeep Compass and Dodge Nitro, does that mean those are Neons too?". Having knowledge seems to hush topics that they can't back up.

It has replaced the Neon for the time being but Dodge has no way endorsed that as they are trying to project this car as something bigger and roomier and anytime you say Neon, people think tiny car, cramped interior. I know the Neon has more legroom by about 2 inches if my memory serves me right but you sit more comfortably in the Caliber. DCX will come out with another car sometime soon or they will make a sedan version of the Caliber but I also think they are gonna stay away from that as well since it reminds people of the Focus the way they came out with 4 different models. It's all about perception of their brand image. That is why they launched that anything but cute campaign.

I have already had people tell me 'oh so you are getting a rebadged, higher PT cruiser??'

They dont even share the same platform!

I wanted the 2.4 pt swap for my neon, but dont call my car something its not. I get it all the time w/ my neon. People that dont know cars always assume that its a HONDA CIVIC of all things. gotta love ignorant people...

You're right, the PT Cruiser and the Caliber don't share the same chasss...yet. ;)

I had one person tell me "it's the new Neon" when I had mine. All I could think of was "Yup, Dodge was so embarrassed by the Neon that they changed the body style, engine, interior, suspension, and rebadged it entirely."

The repsonse? "Thought so."

I hate people...

I didn't think it did. I thought Nitro was the sister to the Jeep Liberty and the Caliber was the sister to the Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot, and one of the Mitsu's (Evo X I thought someone said, but the outlander looks like it could be)

The Caliber shares that same platform as the Compass and the Patriot (the Nitro is a much bigger vehicle).
