Caliber to be fwd

Ive heard from a reliable source that the caliber is gonna be fwd. Im dissappointed, because i was hoping for awd. He saw the car in person recently. Has anyone heard this too? This could be old news.

The caliber wont have an AWD version till late 2008, and there are no plans to have the srt version AWD yet.

... i'm waiting for an actual employee to answer plz .. cause so far your info has been wrong. they dont even HAVE a 6speed, it'll be a 5 speed if anything. Reason i think that, is because 5 speed stick is standard on all cars that aren't awd [on the pre-emptive build&price for caliber]

I don't believe so, I'd have to check with Chassis to find out for sure. Even though on the build website it won't let you have a CVT with AWD doesn't mean we won't be building AWD's with the auto stick. 5 speed manuals for sure. As a matter of fact, thinking back on it, we did build a AWD with Autostick in pilot so I'm almost positive that it will be available in automatic.

I'm also pretty positive that AWD with a Manual tranny will be available if thats your choice.

Pretty much any option you want will be available from our build list.

Clarify your question, or what you are looking for, and I'll see what I can find out for you Suzq044.

You may be building AWD's right now, but that doesnt mean it will be available right when they come out. We build the PTU and Rear axle for them right now, but its still a prototype. And we have one in the shop right now. The srt-4 version, and its a 6 speed not a 5 speed. We have to change the trans covers on a total of 18. Everything that is posted on this site could be wrong. You cant say anything for sure since the car is still in testing. I said the AWD version wont be available till 2008 because thats what the engineer that designed the axle told me. I'll believe him over anything thats posted on the forum.

GETRAG Ford Transmissions is doing the trans for the srt version and its a 6 speed. They arent doing the base model trans so I cant say if that is a 5 or 6 speed. Everything Remax is posting, is based on what I have told him. And thats on the srt version. So hes not wrong.

I'll let you know for sure by the end of next week, week of the 19th, by the 21'st we are scheduled to start building cars that will ship to the dealers. I'll walk over to final (area just before they go to the shipping lot) friday and check if any awd's are gonna be shipped. Then we can put this thread to rest.

Its really not bullshit. And im not arguing with the guy. I hope they do make AWD's available right from the start. The only onfo I know is on the SRT version, and a lil about the AWD version. Maybe our AWD axle is going in the car in 2008, and you have another supplier til then. Im just trying to be helpful and not post bullshit in here. We are also making the axle for the JC or JS project coming up. Not sure which name it is called. JC or JS, something like that.

According to the info that DC has published the 6 speed manual is for the diesel Caliber?

We have a Caliber at my work right now, with a 2.4 turbo and its a 6 speed. Its not a diesel. It has the regular Caliber body kit on it. But it has a 3" exhaust, the srt boost guage on the pillard and 18" rims. The front grill is completely gone so they could fit the intercooler in it, and under the front bumper everything is cut so the UPP can fit. They are still testing the engine and the transmission. But it is a 6 speed.

Was walking out from the plant tonight and sitting on the Final line was a black Caliber RT with AWD and a CVT Auto stick...

Sitting next to it was another Black AWD with a 5 speed manual SXT version.

Both due to ship as soon as we make 2998 more of them.

For me, this issue can be closed. I know were making them and they will ship by the middle of January.

That said, the guys who work in the vendor plants, may be right concerning the SRT version, considering we at the plant haven't seen one yet and we never built one in Pilot in Auburn Hills.

I'll defer SRT questions to them until we have a pilot in plant, set to be sometime in the summer, July or August was the last I heard from managment.

One thing I'd like to add, and I have no knowledge on this, but can say with a certain amount of certainty that DCX will never, never put a Ford Transmission in any of its vehicles.
