Like I mentioned on another thread, I was waiting for Caliber to arrive and had put a deposit for it. The problem was that it was coming without uconnect. The dealership promised to install it like it was put in the factory. A couple of members advised me that it wouldn't be the same so I decided to recover my deposit.
I had two options, either order from factory (4-6 weeks) or go car shopping hoping to find something similar to what I was looking for. I decided for the second option and visited 5 dealerships.
One tried to sell me Caliber that they had "just" received. The problem was that it had 407 miles on it . A couple dealerships only had 1 or 2 base models but the worst was the one in Hialeah, Florida. They had 4 or 5 Calibers so I went to check the sticker price. Besides the normal sticker the had another one that said "Limited Availability" and had $1500 listed for the SXT and $2000 for the R/T. When I ask the salesperson what was it, he said it was a surcharge they were asking customers to pay because of the "Limited Availability". Needless to say I didn't walk, I RAN away from there.
Finally, on the last one I found my car at a fair price. A nice black STX, with the blue sport package, uconnect, sunroof, 6 Disc changer, Sirius, convenience and security package. I will try to post pictures later if anyone is interested.
The moral of the story is you are looking into buying one, visit a lot of dealerships. The one close to your home may be convenient but it may not have the best price.
It may be interesting to share any good or bad experience while shopping for your caliber.

Wow that is crazy!!! Who in their right mind would pay a "limited avalabilty" fee???? I'm glad you got your Caliber tho, from a good dealership! Can't wait to see pics!

Personally I don’t blame you for running. With each dealership being independently owned and operated they have the right to set final pricing. For the extra few thousand they make per car I would gather they would lose 15-20K in overall sales.

When you think about it, 4-6 weeks isn’t a very long time. How long will you spend hunting at the dealership to find a vehicle equipped exactly as you would like. In most cases when you have particular needs, people end up taking additional options they did not necessarily want.

The Caliber has been a fast seller; I think most people would recommend you just go ahead and order it if you have the intention of buying it. Then you can utilize your free time to relax instead of haggle with dealers.

PS. If you are looking to skip running around, you can request a dealership quote thought the dodge website. These requests are handled by the Internet Sales Person usually via email or phone (your choice) and usually cut right to the chase.

Dan,
Thanks for the advice but I ended up buying the one I saw in the last dealership. I love the car and the only extra I didn't need/want was the smoker's package.

Speaking of the Smoker's Group, that ash tray and cigarette lighter are still sitting on my dresser. ;)

Do the Calibers without the smoker's group still come with a Cigarette lighter outlet (to charge my cell phone) or do they only come with that electrical house wall outlet plug?

I started using mine for holding coins. Where's the COIN holder in the Caliber? Most expensive ($30) coin holder I ever purchased.

Yes, they do, its at the bottom of the center console on the driver's side, and has a cap over it.

Hahahaha, you're a riot! If you notice from my signature, I don't have my Caliber yet and since I only sat in one for like 10 minutes, I can't remember every detail! ;)

Not like it matters. The car was sold the day I turned it in. It's not like I can go back and say, "Here, here's a Caliber ash tray and lighter, just in case someone, you know, wants it."

I'd rather sell it on eBay or something...that or keep it as a memento. :)

I have parts to each of the cars I owned. Nothing big. I have a door lock to my 94 escort, a piece of the bumper off of my 95 taurus... I treat fords like they deserve to be treated :D. Ah yes... good times...

Yes, I was thinking on doing it this weekend when I wash the car. Does anyone knows if there is a cargo mat available for the caliber? It seems that small things (sand, etc) could fall in thru the borders of the cargo floor.

From the Mopar Catalog:

P/N: 82210173 - Medium Slate Gray premium cargo mat w/ Ram's Head Logo - $99.00

P/N: 82210174 - Medium Pebble Beige premium cargo mat w/ Ram's Head Logo - $99.00

Prices are MSRP from Mopar, can be found cheaper on the web.

Thanks, but where on the net can you find them? I tried a google search for mopar accesories but all the sites I saw didn't show the cargo mat.
