Was advised by sales mgr at local dealership that Calibers are initially allotted to dealers according to volume of Neon sales. Over what period unknown. Has anyone else heard this? My dealer has five SXT Calibers on lot: 2 red, and black, silver and orange. I ordered a red SXT with more options than models on lot.

I didn't hear anything about that but I guess to some extent that would make some sense. If a dealer was able to sell alot of neons then they should be able to sell the neon replacement. Figure the dealer is in an area that has a demand for smaller cars since they sold a bunch of neons in the first place.

Three weeks ago my dealer here in Dallas had six or seven Caliber's one morning. It was a landrush! I picked out one only to have another salesman come between my salesman and I, announce that he had sold this one, and I was left to choose from among the remaining Calibers. I've since dropped in for various reasons including this morning to pick up my registration and he's had only one car there since, a very basic model.

Yes, thats true. Caliber allocations are currently going by how many Neons that dealer sold. This is what my salesman told me as well. My dealer sold 3 Neons the last quarter before the Caliber started selling so my dealer usually gets 3 allocations when they do actually get some. Also, allocations will go by how many Calibers are going off that dealers lots. If they're selling them right off, then that may influence whom ever determines allocations to give that dealer more consistent allocations. Not every dealer gets allocations for Calibers every month.

I can tell you this much............. For the introduction in The Netherlands, the importer got 250 cars....... My dealer had asked for 50 but was allotted 30, and he has 5 dealerships in the area (not sure over what period).

The importer (Daimler Chrysler NL) reckons to sell about 700 this year and 1400 next year.

This has nothing to do with orders placed. Even if they have 100's of people camping outside, the allotted numbers stick (straight from the dealers mouth).

It's probably different over here because the Dodge marque was (re-) introduced in June.

Dave.

I know that the Ontario Dodge dealerships have a price ratio system, if they want a certain number of Calibers, they have to take on an additional value in other cars, thats why its easier to get a Caliber from a Five Star dealership, than the smaller ones who cant afford to take on extra vehicles that are harder to sell.
