Part #: 05291656AA ($30 retail)
New Part #: 05291656AB

The pad. Notice the two X-mas tree style connectors. This and the tab on the bottom right of the picture is what attaches it under the dash.

The blower motor. Notice the slot above the washer and fastener at the bottom of the picture. This is where the tab on the pad will slide into.

Right side hole for X-mas tree fastener.

Left side hole for X-mas tree fastener.

Close-up of X-mas tree fastener.

Pad installed. All you have to do is slide the tab in the back against the firewall, line up the X-mas tree fasteners and push.

This literally takes about 5 seconds to install. I had just the key on, engine off with the blower on low. As soon as I installed the pad, I instantly noticed a drop in noise with my head underneath the glovebox. In the driver's seat with all the windows up, key on, engine off, and with the blower on low I would estimate it's about a 50% noise reduction. With the engine running, you have to strain to hear it. On any of the other settings the noise disappears.

This was definitely worth it. Sometimes I enjoy driving with the radio off, windows up and couldn't stand listening to the blower motor. If you want further noise reduction, I bet you could get some additional carpet padding pieces to put underneath the pad, but you might bow the pad which you don't want to do. Really wish Dodge would have put this in to begin with, but they saved themselves $10-15 per X amount of Calibers sold in 2008 on up. It just sucks how OEMs have to cheapen up noise reduction things sometimes.

Oh well, I've had my car for almost three years and I dealt with the noise until I found out there was something that was supposed to be there. Now I couldn't be happier about it!

The day has finally come and I have finally gotten my own silencer panel!!!!
I worked some trickery and got mine for around $23! The dealership was ordering some parts to replace under warranty and so after I left, I called them and said, "Since you are ordering some parts, can you add part number 05291656AA to the list as well? It should be around $21-$22 and I'll just pay for it." When I brought my car back to get the warranty part replaced they just had me pay for the silencer pad as well and everything worked out.

I didn't like the color of the pad, so I got some some cheap fabric from the discount section and some spray adhesive and got to work.

While I'm content with the way it turned out, I would just paint it next time. The issue with the fabric is what to do about the edges. I wrapped the fabric over but there isn't an easy way to make it look good.

I installed the panel this morning and I was actually surprised how much it helped. The blower motor is never louder than the air coming out of the vents now. Very surprised and well worth the $23!

Like i said elsewhere, nice idea to cover it.

Gonna see what i can do with mine. My concern with paint, is the possibility of it smelling like paint in my car...
I would look for some kind of fabric paint. At least something that would stay flexible. The pad is not very stiff at all. It's like a piece of carpet padding that has some press formed areas to it. The parts that are press formed are stiff, but the rest is soft, flexible and the regular thickness of the pad.

Use a little hot glue on the backside to keep the fabric in place.

Mine apparently came loose on the way home! Had a new one put in under warranty. Haven't driven it to know how it works. There was a lot of discussion as to whether the part was stock or not. It came on my '09 R/T.

From what we have uncovered here, it looks like the sxt and rt models get the panel. No panel on the se or the srt. There might be a date when this changed, but I don't know for sure.

kind of like the rear seats then...se and srt get normal rear seats. sxt and r/t get reclining rear seats
