Is the Caliber Stereo a 2 DIN unit??

My question is just as the title states or is it that 1.5 DIN crap? I could not find info on it and thought that someone might now. I am a fan of indash Navigation systems and just wanted to know for that purpose.

Thanks

For the Head unit, is it somthing like this size:

http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/products/product.php?model=DVA-9861

or this size:

http://www.eclipse-web.com/5495index.html
It's more like the latter, less like the former, if that's what you're asking.
Ok I found the specs for the latter link that I posted.

Silverfox, lol, what is the measurements for the stereo? 4" tall and 6.5" wide??

That is the dimensions of the unit??

and well, 7" deep (not asking you to measure that lol)
im still confused. are you asking if it will be a display like the bottom one. no, it wont be.

I am taking about the size of the Stereo "slot", if you will. The size of the hole that is cut to fit the "stock" stereo into.
The unit itself is about four inches tall and seven inches wide, roughly. I haven't measured it exactly just yet.
Cool, when you get a chance to measure it just let me know what the results are, just curious if it is 2"(1-DIN), 3"(1.5-DIN), 4" (2-DIN). I am already thinking of after market stuff for it. Thanks

Perhaps I can provide some assistance.

Unfortunately I don’t have a DIN listing on the Caliber's radio selection. What I can do is provide you other models in the DaimlerChrysler family that feature the same radio. You may be able to cross reference these units for more details specs.

AM/FM/ Single CD w/ Aux Input (Sales Code REF)
- Magnum, Charger, Dakota, Ram, Durango, Commander, 300, PT Cruiser

AM/FM 6-disc CD with MP3 (Sales Code RAQ)
- Dakota, Ram, Durango, Commander, Grand Cherokee, PT Cruiser

On page 170 of the 2007 Caliber owners’ manual it also lists a RAK which appears to be a new option. It lists the following, AM/FM/Cassette w/ 6-disc CD with optional satellite radio, hands free phone, video and mp3/wma capabilities.

Cheers,
Dan

Thanks Dan,

Do you have the measurements of it? I was trying to cross reference, but no dimensions were given that I could find. It is not a priority, but would like to know for future reference.

Unfortunately we aren't provided information that detailed. Since we don’t have one on site, I can’t help with the approximate exterior size either.

You may be able to find more detailed size and mounting specs on another forum. I know LXforums.com is a large community and I bet one of them has torn out the stock deck.

Thanks again Dan! I may have to drop a question on the LX forums!

LOL it's about time! Na J/K I am glad we are on the same page now, no pun intended.;)
From the pics, it looks to be a double-DIN. But as of yet, there's no aftermarket dash kits for the Caliber specifically. But the radio appears to be the same as you would find in a new Durango. You may be able to adapt, possibly without modification, a Durango dash kit to fit. With the nature of the car being what it is, a shop in your area may be more than willing to be the "first" to lay their hands on it and see what they can figure out. Or, you can buy a dash kit for a new Durango. Check the shop's return policy on Dash kits incase it doesn't fit. The wiring harness should be the same, because they're generally the same by manufacturer and don't change often.
dommo_g: Thanks for you input! I am mainly asking because I want to put in an aftermarket double-DIN Navi when I get mine. I realized I will have to wait for the install kit, but like you said the Durango one may fit with little fabrication. Thanks again!

More then likely you would be able to use a dash kit similar, if not identical to any of the vehicles I listed above. It’s the beauty of parts sharing.

Like dommo_g said, check the return policy. If they don’t have kits yet I am sure they will have them soon.

Video? Without a full-front screen, how would it handle video?

If it's anything like the radio in my mom's Pacifica, it has standard Yellow-Red-White A/V jacks on the front to hook into an external screen.
