Hello. I have an 08 caliber I bought about 4-5 months ago. When I leave from a stop, the transmission goes through 1st and 2nd gear ok, but then jumps to 4th, the rpms drop to about 1000-1100, then shifts to 3rd, goes through 3rd properly, and then properly shifts to 4th. Anyone have any idea what’s causing this? Thanks.

Dodge Caliber has CVT transmission, basically a belt-pulley system made by Japanese company JATCO. There are no gears to shift, hydraulic pressure automatically changes belt-pulley ratio to keep engine operating at the optimum RPM range. Therefore if you hear gear changes, it's possible there's something's wrong with your transmission. Google "CVT Transmission Operation" to see how it's supposed to work.

CVT transmission made by JATCO is also used on Nissan, see video below:
CVT transmission FAILING

I was wondering the other day, if you can find a scrap Caliber with Manual 5-speed transmission, is it possible to install it on a Caliber with CVT, or is it too much effort?
