If you're asking about the key to an old school gasoline engine, then no. Although there are definitely some cars that can share their ignition with other vehicles if the keys happen to be identical in design. Newer cars use much more high tech ignition systems like push-to-start, so it may depend on the make and model of car. But for most cars, no, a lazer cut key is not required to start it up!
