I just recently purchased a 08 C-SRT. I was looking at what basic performance upgrades i can do. I'm not trying to go extreme. I'm not going to do the PCM upgrade yet but i do want to upgrade the sway bars. But i saw that Mopar makes a BOV plate, and the price is nice. Besides it venting the air to the atmosphere and making a sound, are there any real performance or efficiency gains that come with it. Is there a drop in the incoming air charge or does it help reduce the lag? I just wanted to know if it was worth doing. The BOV is already there this just redirect it to the atmosphere, i'm not concerned about getting the sound, i just don't want to do an upgrade to the powertrain that doesn't help performance.

Couldnt the plate possibly help just a little? It would seem to exhaust a little faster than without it since all the air is not squeezing through the one little nipple on the valve. Just throwing that thought out there, I could be completely wrong.

I've heard/read this arguement a hundred times already, but I do agree with rayjj... I feel it has to change how the stock surge valve flows a little

with the BOP it vents at the surge valve, without the BOP it goes through the surge valve, through a tiny line into the intake, it'd have to take more time (even if it is 0.2 seconds)

I just don't get how it'd be "exactly" the same...

Incorrect again. Ive spoken with the srt guys and more specifically the engine calibrator for the neon srt-4. It is a noise maker only. This is coming directly from the people who know this car the best. The ones who designed and calibrated it.

No your incorrect.

I've actually looked at the car and the two ways the air vents are different. On the plate you have multiple vent holes that allow the air to vent quickly. Without the plate the air is forced through that small hose that is no bigger around then one of the vents on the plate. It passes through that hose to a nipple on the intake.

Sometimes the SRT guys give quick answers because they get tired of answering silly questions.

Now does it make a difference? Don't know because I wasn't getting surge either way but regardless, it lets the air flow out more freely and thats what the blow off is all about.

Now if increasing the air flow doesn't make a difference than we don't need an aftermarket BOV either.

It wasnt quick answers. We were speaking face to face at the Chrysler museum when he was showing off the prototype stage 3 on the elw car. I asked him when we were talking face to face, and someone asked him when he was talking to the whole group. Ive also spoken to him in pms on srtforums and gave me the same info as well. If you want to disagree with an engine calibrator for the srt team then be my guest. I will leave it at that. However I will trust them since they know the car best based on first hand knowledge rather than your beliefs.

We dont need an aftermarket bov with the stock turbo. The surge valve does its job. Same thing for the neon srt-4. Im not saying its stupid to have one, because I had the hks bov on my neon srt-4 (I liked the noise). I also had the surge valve hooked up with it as well because the hks sat so far from the turbo. It's a little different than the caliber since it sits closer, but theres no benefit from it besides noise. If you want to justify the purchase of your bov besides noise, then be my guest. You have no proof it does any beneficial rather than what you think. Im not the smartest guy in the world which is why I get my info from the people who are :)

I'm not disputing either way, however.... As a network engineer, I've seen several times where other engineers use opinions rather than fact, AS FACT. It then gets passed along as fact. I'm not saying this is the case. I guess, the only way to really tell would be with hard data on how fast the pressure is released.

What you said is correct...Installing the blow off plate,or even the uppipe/BOV combo like I did is primarily for the noise that says to car guys that "my car isn't stock anymore"....

I guess sometimes I don't need a nuclear physicist to explain to me why when I I knock my glass over all the water spills out.

The surge valve is a simple design and very easy to understand. I don't need expert opinions for the obvious. I like thinking on my own from time to time.
The plate increases the airflow rate so whether this helps or not doesn't matter because the quicker the air pressure gets released the quicker the turbo can recover.

This argument usually comes up when discussing whether to get an aftermarket BOV or just use the plate.

I'm not going to debate about it anymore because it's not that important.
