This is primarily directed towards silverfox since he is already has one...

The lowdown: essentially, the cd player has issues playing cds which were burned from computer (so mp3s -> audio format) I've tried at 32 and 16x... both skip at random times. Some songs play perfectly while others don't. Audio cds do work with my computer. I'm going to try burning a cd at around 4-8x and see if that helps... any other ideas?

In the scheme of things it isn't a big deal... I'll be getting an ipod soon.

Burn a CD as slow as possible. Burning it too fast will cause most in-car CD players to skip since they don't spin as fast as CD players in computers do. I had that problem, too. Brand new disks would skip sometimes but older disks wouldn't. When I dropped the burn speed to 8 or 4, I had no more problems.

hmmm, not liking what I'm hearing about the stock radio's. My $200 pioneer head unit plays just about anything I throw at it. I burn all my CD's at MAX speed, never had an issue with the Pioneer. and it came with a remote!

Unfortunatly, it's not conclusive. It's random, oddly enough. I have had some CDs burnt at the slowest settings skip sometimes, and CDs burnt at the highest speed sometimes play perfectly. I've only had one out of my collection (over 2,000 discs) skip badly due to burn speed. Any other skips were of old and worn discs that were thrown away afterwards.

Hah.... forgot to post an update on here about this. Apparently the software I am using (Nero 7.0) has a bug in it with an incorrect mp3 encoding dll file. I updated it with an earlier version and now there are no issues...

No biggie now that I have my ipod anyway ; )
