Hey... I've been searching on this sub-forum for some detailed info on the connectors and/or pinouts of the REC Nav system, with little luck. :(

I suspect that I need to do a bit more searching for info on the CAN-Bus and other details that I see many references to, as well.

I was just hoping that the more 'seasoned' members of the forum could point me in the right direction... I'm not looking to have my 'hand held' on everything...:D

I've had my Cali for less than a week, and I'm not quite ready to 'tear out' the dash just yet. ;)

Thanks!

This is from donsmith when i was helped with the pinouts for the uconnect harness. I forgot all about this but it may help you out. It doesnt include the pinouts for the GPS antenna or rear seat video audio/reverse camera though. This is the pinout on the harness side JSYK. Ill dig up what i can for teh rest of the pins but it works just liek the rest of the factory radios really.

Does anybody know if the wiring diagrams that I'm looking for are in the service manual? Seems that I saw a link to CD or DVD based 'manual' for the Caliber... maybe the info is in there?

Thanks! :D

I'm still working on the 'idea'... It's just that I'm intrigued by the 'camera' input, and the possibility of integrating a DVD player or 'other' video source into the unit... Perhaps a mini-itx PC system... I dunno yet. (The audio portion seems to be fairly easy, with a number of aftermarket devices)

My quest for information will ultimately lead to inspiration, and then... who knows!

I did find this... but, the wire colors might not be *Exactly* right, because this info came from a Jeep forum post. The connectors and pinouts *should* be the same for a Caliber.

There is a company that mods the rec nav with a VGA input and i believe composit inputs for dvd players and such. I dont have the link here at work but its something you could easily find in a forum search or google search. I have a project planned as well but ill be using their mod and installing it myself. Ill also be getting a touschreen film panel. Thats all i will say till i actually do something lol.

You can get them from most car audio shops. Or check out my thread on uconnect install and i give part numbers for aftermarket connectors. They arnt fully populated though so you have to move some pins around. I would link you but im at work and have limited time.

If you're thinking about adding a backup camera or some other device into that port, you might to have a read over at car hack (http://www.carhack.org/forum/). Several people have been working on this for the LX cars and it doesn't appear to be as easy as plug and play. The thought seems to be that the VIN that is on the CAN bus interacts with the software on the REC to tell it what features are available and it appears the backup camera isn't recognized as a valid option and thus won't work. If you find out something that gets this working, let me know because I'm very intersted is getting access to the video input.

I have seen a site where they figured this out i think...i'll see if i can find it for you guys

EDIT:
http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_parkview_camera.htm
http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/showthread.php?t=805734
but it only seems to be working on 07+ Jeep Grand Cherokees

However, at least one Patriot has it working: http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4839

LX's seem to be having problems too: http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=45375

a vid screen is just a display.... there is a cheat, it just takes tapping into the display for the REC deck. its an internal mod, its very easy just takes knowledge about IC curcuts and what pins to pigtail. dosent matter about CAN at all. its just a dealing with a video source. you can add any video you want just flip a switch. its that easy. I can do it. so can you.

Yes from everything I've read the only vehicles that it seems to work on are the ones that offer a backup camera as a factory option. I know that people have taken a REC radio from a Jeep where it works and put it in LXs or RAMs and it doesn't but when they take the radio from the LX or RAM and put it in the jeep it does. Thats what leads people to the conclusion that it has something to do with CANBus integration. People have explored the system with a star scan and still can't get it working.

rubi-soho - I would be very interested in the details on how to get the video working on the REC unit.
