Subframe rusted out

Mechanic said my Subframe was rusted out and needs replacement. I'm going ahead with it, but am worried fornthe future. How often does this happen? I read an article that mentioned the Caliber's A/C condenser drops water onto the subframe, which of course will accelerate rusting. How likely is this to happen again in the next few years?
