That antenna!!!!

Hello all,

newbie here!!! I'm looking seriously at the Caliber for purchase sometime in September (I want to wait out a few of the inevitable productin glitches)

But what's the story with the antenna. The rest of the car has quite good styling, but then there's that antenna sticking striaght up out of the right front fender! what is this 1980 again! looks like they forgot about the antenna and then went to Canadian Tire an picked something of the shelf!

While I'm on the topic, any idea if modifying the sheetmetal. IE filling in the hole from where the antenna currently is and relocating it has any impact on any of the warranty??

They should have kept the antenna that was on the concept . (the one the european market WILL get). Whats up with taking all the cool european stuff off the Caliber for the American market? Come on, its cheaper to make it one way.
It seems that they also get a painted grille and body color door moldings on the outside:mad:

nothing a trip to the local body shop can't fix....or just get the SRT-4 version.
Yeah thats what I was thinking, I had the mirrors done on my Neon body color.
Can someone post a pic up of that? I cant seem to find what you guys are pointing out?

Here it is smak dab in the fender. Though as I look tat more pics, I'm starting to see the antenna in all different locations. let's hope this isn't the production location.

i believe the antenna placement is the only thing they kept from the neon.. and almost everyone [that i know] replaced it w/ a shorty antenna. Its probably gonna be on the roof for satelite radio & euro-bound cars.. and on the fender in base trims for the US... just a guess tho :)
The european market will get the roof mounted radio antenna, the US will get the fender mounted antenna. Also, both will see the Sirus antenna back by the hatch. Thats the way it is.
I'm so used to driving with an antenna in the fender that it doesn't really bother me all that much. Just another aspect of the vehicle I don't really notice. It doesn't detract from the lines that much. I've seen them on cars since I was little, so I guess I'm used to it by now.
hell, if it bothered anyone that much; they could always go euro & buy a conversion from someone :)
looks ok to me...

I never see the antena anyway..sorta disapear.

It would affect the warranty on the parts you mod (the radio, perhaps the entire chassis electrical, and that body panel). If you have a dealership do the bodywork, that should smoothe over any warranty issue on the body panel.

You're right. 1980 all over again.
how bout u just buy a euro-bound fender?

You have to ask the dealer about that. But dont worry someone will make a shorty attena sooner or later
I was thinking the shorty antenna too, maybe someone could make them body color. Either way, I am sure that someone will make an aftermarket for this antenna issue.
Heck... I don't even have the antenna installed on my current car. Just unscrewed it and I'm good to go. I stick with mp3s cds... no need for radio :)

Most shorty antennas already out will fit. Its just a matter of screwing it on. Almost all antennas are the same now days. You just need the right adapter and most aftermarket antennas come with several adapters. :)
I don't like the antenna placement either. Wish they would've put it on the roof.
