Here is a place to list the door speakers you exchanged in your cali.

make sure to note:
- if you have liftgate or not.
- changed out your head unit.
- the sizes front and rear
- and of course how you like the speakers.

P.S. - any1 get/like the kappas?

I have the stock stereo/ single CD in my SXT. I mentioned in another post here that I replaced just the front door speakers with a pair of 6x9's from Eclipse (SE8495) The speakers sound great, but there is an abberation created by the speaker in the right front door. The highs directly hit my right ear with a great amount of harshness which cannot be totally EQ'd out. Amazingly, if I merely lean left or right in the driver's seat, the harshness disappears. It's just when I'm in the usual driving position that the sound annoys me. I wonder if the tweeter could be re-aimed somehow. Or I could move these speakers to the rear doors and put another type of 6x9's in the front door.
Any additional suggestions?

I have noticed something like that with the stock speakers when I ride in the passenger seat. It is only at the higher volumes but it diffently isn't pleasent to the ears.

Hey guys... first time post... I should be getting my caliber tonight... I'm going with Elemental Design 6.5" components up front with an ED Nine.2 amp on them...

Dawson,

Welcome to the Caliber Club! Tell us about your new ride.

FYI - the doors take 6x9 speakers. I found this out when I went to have mine installed. I had chosen 6.5 speakers and had to exchange them. I suppose if you're really sold on those 6.5's you could make them fit with some extra cutting, that is if you don't mind slicing up your new Cali. :)

thanks for the welcome.

I got a white SXT w/cvt last night. it's a little strange to drive a CVT after having regular transmissions for so long. I didn't get any audio upgrades as I've always done my own thing in the cars I've owned.

as for the 6.5" components, I already knew all the speakers are 6x9, but that's no problem. an MDF baffle will take care of that. Simply cut the MDF to match the mounting position of the stock speakers, then cut whatever size hole is needed in the MDF for the new speaker to fit. as for the tweeters, they'll go up in mounting pods at the far corners of the dash/winshield as long as test fitting shows fairly accurate imaging/staging... I'm also gonna be putting in a single 18" Elemental Design sub in a 2.2 sealed box

You should have kept the 6.5's and adapted them. round speakers ALWAYS sound better than oval. I am going to go with some 6.5 boston accoustic compnents in the front with the tweets mounted in the factory location. Probably boston coax's in the back.

^^ yes, they do. This is mainly cause the consistency of rigidity in the round cones. Oval cones have many different radaii causing one portion to flex, or distort, at a different time than the rest.

think about this, if you have a 1/4" dowel rod, will a 3" long piece be easier to break than a 12" long piece?

I switched out my system just after i got my car... and there is zero comparison (obviously). I stuck with the basic system from the factory (no liftgate). Went with MBQuart RCE216 6.5" components for front and rear (tweeters in factory location in front, and mounted with woofers in rear) with MTX TC4004 speaker amp; Two MTX MZS1004 subs with MTX TC6001 monoblock; changed headunit for Eclipse CD3000 with iPod adapter and works and sounds great.. tho i may, down the road, go for a double-din headunit to fill that little pocket in my dash like the eclipse avn5510 *one day...*

i'm gonna install some old stuff i have left from my stratus iasca competition car, a kenwood 910 dvd head unit, 2 sets of rockford Q-series components, 2 audio control EQL's, a rockford power series 800.4 on those and a power series db1000.1 on the sub witch im gonna go with one of the new power series rockford 12's. i have three of the older rockford hx2 10's but dont wont to give up my cargo space. i should get it all in but for the sub in the next week or two as long as it stays warm enough for me to get my garage cleaned out to get in inside.

all my rockford stuff is at least 5 years old, i havent heard any of the new stuff that they have but i wouldnt sell any of what i have for any amount of money in my stratus i consitantly scored 37-38 out of 40 on rta and sound quality, plus those older amps are rock solid i have had some rockford amps for over ten years and the still push hard. buts as far as new stuff i would love to have all mb quart components and sub they are and have always been one of the cleanest sounding speakers. also i'm not into rap/crap so i dont need massive bass just outstanding sound quality.

My one complaint is my sub box.. it IS my trunk - no room for pretty much anything. Planning on getting something alittle smaller, and maybe sealed. Im more of a rock fan and the ported box just isnt doing it for me.. so if anyone is looking for a ported MTX Bass Slammer box in the near future, PM me.

I like the hatch area coved like that. i have been trying to fig. out something to do like that for a small amp rack. hmmmmmmmmmm the wheels are spinning... but please get rid of the nos wheel cover...really takes away from what you have got going on. good job non the less. here is a thread with pics of my install. I am starting the new sub box this weekend if the weather holds out. http://www.caliberforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2544

I really like the way that looks too.... different material to match factory fabric would put it over the top.

I don't know if I will do anything to the stock speakers in the door, maybe do something about the tinny liftgate speakers, but a notation.

The Boston Pro Series 6.5s I had in my Mazda6 sounded better at the weak 25watt per channel factory amp sounded better than these factory Boston speakers in the Caliber.

Has anyone actually identified what model line (if any) of Boston's the factory premium speakers are?
