I was told they are a medium positive offset and the bolt pattern is a 5x4.5.

Well your the customs guy right. You shhould figure it out by yourself. But first take your finger off of shift.

i would guess you'd need a FWD offset, and RWD may not fit properly, i'm sure they'll bolt up but looking good is another matter

looked in the rim today the offset of the 17" alloys is +39mm

Tire Rack lists many Caliber wheels. They all seem to show 5x114 and between +40 - 50mm.
