I presently lease a 2002 Liberty Sport optioned near max and have really enjoyed the vehicle. The lease is soon over and I began to look at replacements.

I am an IT tech and need to carry parts bins and misc. gear with me and occasionally pick up larger freight shipments that require extra cargo room. I also wanted available 4WD for those occasional nasty winter days and mountain pass road trips to the Vancouver BC area.

I visited my local DCX dealer and test drove a 300C hemi and Liberty diesel. The one issue I didn't like with my present Liberty was the typical poor SUV fuel economy. The 300C with cylinder deactivation would allow an improvement on overall fuel use as my driving includes significant highway driving but the cargo issue was a nix.
Really loved the car though. Awesome driving experience and power. The diesel Liberty modestly equipped was $35K and offered real world 20% improvement over the gas engine but at the expense of interior noise. Dressing it up would have raised the price even higher.

What to do? One day I came across a newspaper ad briefly announcing the Caliber. Not much info so I began to look for more details. Google found a handful of reviews and this forum. After lurking here and gradually seeing more photos and hands on remarks (thanks SilverFox for the exceptional contributions) I began to see the Caliber as perhaps the perfect new fit for my needs. The cargo room approaches the same as the Liberty. AWD gives me the allweather upside. I wasn't sure about the CVT tranny but after chatting with an aquaintance who has owned a Nissan Murano with the Jatco CVT for two years, I was more assured. Finally, I really like the look and equipment options.

On March 6 I ordered the R/T AWD in Marine Blue optioned almost max including leather and power sunroof. No chrome wheels. Moving to the Caliber will lower lease payments, fuel costs and insurance. FYI I am 46 years old.

If anyone reading this post can help, I'd really like to hear more comments on the sound system as I am an amateur jazz trumpet player with a discerning ear. Is the 9 speaker audio w/sub as good as its specs? Has anyone seen a marine blue Caliber yet? Post a picture if you can.

I haven't heard the Boston Acoustics package in a Caliber yet, but did include it in my order. I have listened to a similar package in the Chysler 300 and it was incredible. The 300 had an 8 speaker, 368 watt system. The Caliber will come with 9 speakers and 458 watts total. Bear in mind that the wattage ratings are obtained by adding all speaker ouputs together. I believe the amp output is around 66 watts. I think you will be very happy, Boston Acoustics has a solid reputation for crystal clear sound.

Thanks for that. Many judge audio quality as loud and proud:rolleyes: I prefer clean and tight.

I know what you're saying, these days, the bass has to be heard 4 blocks away to be considered good. I prefer a cleaner sound too and am excited about Boston Acoustics designing this system. I would love to have Boston Acoustics speakers at home, but with 2 teenage girls and the related expenses, that's just a dream. Anyway, enjoy the Caliber and as for the Mountain passes near BC, I've driven them, the ride from Seattle to Vancouver on Rt. 5 is one of the most beatiful trips I've ever taken. you're a lucky man to be surrounded by such natural beauty.

R/T all the way. I was going to wait for the SRT-4 but when I saw that the R/T was all wheel drive. Well, that is the way to go, even if Doge won't put one into the Caliber you can put the SRT-4 into the R/T Probably easyer.

Good Choice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed:D Moved away from Vancouver 16 years ago to start my family in the BC Interior (Okanagan Valley). 2010 brings the winter Olympics to BC. Lots of buzz. I have two kids and can relate to the expenses comment. I overcome premium goods purchases by keeping an eye out for good used. Those home B.A. speakers might be reachable that way.

Still not many comments on the Caliber premium sound system. I'd like to hear if the sub has "punch":) or "thud":(, speaker buzz from poor mounting...that sort of thing. I guess I'll find out for myself when the car arrives.

I haven't seen any marine blue pics yet either. That colour was apparently not initially available so that may explain the lack of photos. Hopefully there will be some soon.

I'll be picking up my r/t tonight. I'll let you know how the BA speakers sound. As compared to my JL audio speakers in my car right now, or my klipsch's at home. Or I suppose my beyerdynamic cans, or the sennheiser canal phones I just bought. hmm

Some not so good news today on my order. After seeing some of the postings here with order confirmation and build scheduling, I phoned my dealer for a build status update. I was told the order is not even being accepted and has been refused since first week of March. Initially, the dealer was told marine blue would be available to order March 8. The order config is still being refused as of today. My order was as follows.

Caliber R/T AWD, Marine Blue
Grey Leather
9 speaker audio
convenience group
uconnect
security group
sunroof

The order is in limbo right now while order chain personnel try to figure out what's up. Sounds like the marine blue might still not be available. I'll wait for it if I have to. I also notice the online price and configurator refuses the leather interiour option. Hopefully this will straighten out soon or someone can provide reliable info and dates. Anyone out there successfully ordered a configuration like mine in marine blue?
