Okay, I have done a number of searches and only found one or two mentions of people doing this (challengertalk.com has tons about this).

I want to paint my engine cover. there is way too much plastic in the SRT-4 Engine Bay.

I wanted to go with either a blue (mopar), or red theme (my SRT-4 is black).
I planned on changing all the grey writing and lines and the lower section to the desired colour (as well as potentially doing some other engine components.)

what are others thoughts on this? anyone else done it with photos i can see?

I have all the materials to do this, i have just yet to have the courage to start spraying. :stickpoke:

UPDATE:

i finally went ahead and did it. still a work in progress. painted it blue first but wasn't happy with the 'look'. red looks much better. still need to paint all silver parts red also.

i have read many mixed things about taking it off and leaving it on. the pros and cons etc.

the majority are taking them off then?

AdubZ - do you have a photo?

I have seen quite a few painted engine covers on different
forums although not many have been CSRT4s.Clean and a
light sanding then use Krylon heat proof paint or have a new
one custom made. Here's a pic of my lowly SXT 2.0 along
with a custom from the UK.

on the painted engine bay how did you go about doing all the lettering, by hand?

You could either paint it by hand or use auto vinyl tape for the lettering.
This is what I did with chrome tape from an auto supply shop. BTW, the Mopar is a P-Touch label.

This cover now sits around the house as art deco but while I had it on, the engine heat didn't affect it at all. Now I have another homemade P-Touch sticker right on the valve cover and that also holds up very well.

Yeah!!!! Sorry i took so long to reply!
I was too impatient to paint mine the same way... i also painted my intake snorkel gunmetal too. photos dont do the color justice IMO. it has lots of sparkle in person

i thinks all the covers shown (red, chrome lettered and gunmetal) looked sick. HICal, your ptouch machine is BAMF!

I would like to bring my sunburst orange from the outside to the inside but im afraid it would peel under the heat. anyone know if i used a hi temp clear if that would save me from the peelage and crackage?

Get the P-Touch with the usb. You can create your own stuff from the computer and then print it to the labels. The silver P-Touch tape sprayed with the Dupont Acrylic Trim & Jamb clear paint almost looks like polished aluminum. Also BTW, the Dupont paint code is A-7480S. It works real good and haven't had any trouble even with valve cover heat.

Little more with the P-Touch. This is the logos I made for the valve cover.

I Want To give. It A try to. I hAve A 09 I just got. And. I ordered the engine coVer cus mine did not come With one I have the 2.0 and. I wantEd to give this A try. Krylon fusion for plAstics or just the heat reStant stuff.
Also it is best to spray the cover first with an adhesion promoter spray. There's others available but Duplicolor for one carries that spray. Provided it's not flexible I've used the adhesion promoter followed by Duplicolor spray paints on plastics with no problems.
