as far as i know, its not possible to get 40 more hp out of a non srt model.

intake, exahust, header, and thats about the only mods i know of that you can do to the engine on these cars.

There is no way to flash tune it, or tune it period, so speed limiter is stuck at 111, cant adjust fuel trim, etc etc

I understand that the base model is not a performance car, far from, but if you read my post a few back, its a matter of money

If you are willing to give me 4k to go and get an srt4, id gladly go and get one, but since i cant just **** out 4k, looks like im stuck with what i have for now
:beerchug: If I had bill gates money.. I'd hook you up

Yea, it makes the non srt people feel lower on the food chain for sure.

At least youre not a typical douschebag srt owner though:bigthumb:
:icon_confused: Really?? Someone talking about the financial aspects of dumping money into an NA car for power and speed vs just buying a turbo version of the same car for equal money (long term) makes you feel lower on the food chain? You need to relax bro.. it's not that serious. Stop with the EMO

It's not about making people feel bad about their cars.. but it just doesn't make sense when people mod the hell of a car for speed and "just a little more power for passing" when for the same cost they can buy a turbo version that will do all that completely stock. I understand some people went out and bought NA Calibers for $18K new...and then 2 years later (or less) there are now Caliber SRTS for less than $18K. Why do you think I waited? It's because when the CSRT was new ..it was stickered at $35K around where I live.. (yes $35K after markup) I waited a few years and bought a CSRT for under 18K ..It's just a lesson learned. Don't run out and buy the NA slow model of a car because you're not willing to wait. It's all good wanting more power out of any car you buy, but dropping $1000s or even $600 is a waste of time and money.. especially when you know you're going to want the car you drive to go fast

Wow, is this how all threads go when asking about ideas for moding a N/A car? I would argue every point, but I have a feeling it would be a waste of my time. I'll stick to reading about performance post and saving my posting for the appearance section only.

No, its the people that are douschebags and have to gloat that their car is better that others, because of what they can and cant afford.

Like i said earlier, id love to have an srt4, or a wrx, or something factory turboed, but at the time, i was driving a car that was on its way out, and i needed something to replace it quickly.

I was paying 177 a month for my old car, and jumping up to 285 a month was a big jump for me, going up to 400+ for an srt was out of the question.

A new car was all i could really get, because of financing, and because i still owed money on my old car.

When i bought my caliber, i paid 16.1k out the door. The dealer paid off the remaining loan on my old car, and gave me cost on the caliber.

So going from 16.1k to 22k wasnt an option for me. Couldnt afford it, and at the moment, i still cant. If i could have kept my old car and waited, i would have, but with a failing trans, and almost 100k on the car, it was time to get into something more reliable, rather than keep on fixing the car.

Not being emo  far from, but like i said, its the asshats that always have to prove their car is better that pisses me off. Yep, you have an srt4, awesome, its a great car, but not everyone can afford one.

Waste of money to buy the n/a version? No. Its gotten me back and forth from work and wherever else i need it to go. Would i like it to be faster, sure, yea, but is it financially responsible, no. I COULD go and trade mine in right now for an srt4, and if i really pushed it, could afford the payments, but why live tight with money. Then if something happens i wont be able to afford to fix it.

Right now im more or less worried about paying off my debt, getting back to school to finish up, and starting a career, rather than having a fast car. The fast cars will come later in life. Not to mention how much my car insuranace would go up if i got an srt4.

Right now i pay 116 a month for the caliber, an srt4 neon would cost me near 200 a month, and the caliber is over that. Im not going to pay 600 bucks, give or take, a month, to have a fast car. At this point in time in life its just not worth it to me.

Plus all the SRT guys are assuming everybody wants to drive a stick and a turbo 4 banger. I don't want to drive a stick, and want nothing to do with a turbo 4 banger. I with 08Sunburst. I traded in a 2002 Chevy Avalanche with 120k on it. I owed 4k more then it was worth. If I could afford a faster car, I would have gotten it. Would it have been a SRT4? No, it would have been a hemi powered magnum. Since then, things have changed, its my g/f's daily driver. I just can't leave a car alone, and we use it for road trips since it gets twice the gas mileage as my V-8. I just want a lil more zip. I mentioned exhaust(100-200) header(150-300), and CAI(what ever i can fab up). This car will never see a drag strip, it will never race on the street.

I understand the SRT4 guys point of view, I think the same thing when somebody mods a V-6 magnum/charger/300, or camaro, firebirds, and mustangs. None of these cars should have been manufactured with a v-6 in my opinion. But I understand their need to mod it : )

My car is a stick  But that was by choice. Automatic is nice and all, especially in heavy traffic, but i had to keep it fun somehow lol

Im the same way, i cant leave a car alone. I said when i bought the car that i was going to leave it completely stock. Low and behold, a year and a half later, i put rims on, lowered it, amp, subs, indash, tint, etc etc.

I just need to make the car "mine" so to speak

Its funny, i was walking out of the gas station today, and a guy was walking past my car, looked at me, and said damn, nice ride. Its no srt, but it will turn a head or two. Ive had people compliment the car quite a bit :beerchug:

I never said having a CSRT is better than an NA Caliber.. Not once. My point has nothing to do with what is better or not... I just say if you are going to dump a few grand into the caliber, it puts the price of the car right up there with the price of a CSRT. Sounds like the "chip" is on the shoulders of NA Caliber owners..Not the CSRT guys. I'm talking financial common sense.. You're talking about CSRT owners gloating that they have a CSRT.. (which is non-existent in this thread.)

And if you prefer automatic transmissions..and you want HP out of an NA Caliber ... God be with you.

I never said you were doing any gloating

What im saying is, and it seems you are still failing to see the point of, is that when i bought my car, i could not afford to buy an srt.

I also stated that i drive a stick :bigthumb:

I have not heard of any kind of chip for the n/a caliber, but if they do put one out(especially in flash tuner form) i would be happy.

For me, i've had my car since Jan '07, way before the CSRT4 was available, and now its not being sold anymore, so i really doubt that i will ever have one.

My car was ~20k, (including a 5 year maintenance package) the CSRT4 was ~30k up here.

Even including the maintenance, and my tires, new bumper, mygig, etc, i'm still well below the csrt4

Yep, mine was 16.1k out the door, while a csrt brand new would have cost around 23-25k

It was between a 285 dollar a month car payment, and a 475-525 dollar a month car payment(not to mention insurance was through the roof for the srt caliber at the time). I bought the car just after i turned 21, and its not like have my parents to rely on to make my payments for me.

Im perfectly happy to have a base model and own it, and know the meaning of working hard to keep it paid for and maintained, than to have it handed to me.

I realize that not everyones parents buy their cars for them, but most people my age have things handed to them. And if you were able to afford the srt4 brand new then props to you, because im not as rich

well, I am going to bring this back to life... I dont want to hear this "should have got an srt-4" crap. I have an 11 second talon...

I just want a little more pep, to get out and pass. (like the OP.)

I assume intake/exhaust is the best "bang for the buck" on these cars?

The engine doesn't need an oil cooler especially on a 2.0L naturally aspirated production engine. The car already has an efficient cooling system called a radiator. Unless you do a lot of towing this mod will be useless.

If I may take this is a different direction, How about some mods to increase fuel efficiency or longevity of the car? If I want to go fast I have a 3kgtvr4 for that . this is a family car I would love to stretch out the mileage on.

For those concerned about fuel I stepped up my plugs to Bosch iridium cores and threw in a K&N air filter and got about +10- +30 to a tank. That's mostly city btw.
